TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta people can see supermoon or full moon perigee tonight, February 19. The spokesperson of the Jakarta Planetarium and Observatory in Taman Ismail Marzuki, Eko Wahyu, said that the phenomenon of the closest point of the moon to earth can be witnessed with naked eyes at 22:53 Jakarta time.
“You can see it without a telescope,” said Eko when Tempo contacted Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 19.

Secondly, he continued, weather plays a part. If it is cloudy, there is a very low chance to watch the full moon perigee. The moon can be visibly seen when the sky is cloudless.
The Jakarta Planetarium and Observatory did not hold an event to watch the phenomenon together. Such an event is only established during eclipse or conjunction. Besides, Eko added, the supermoon is a common phenomenon that can occur four times a year.
Tonight’s supermoon or full moon perigee is a special phenomenon considering the closest point of the moon to the earth is at 356,761 kilometers. According to Forbes, the supermoon will be the biggest and brightest for the next seven years, until 2026.
